Every February and March, Viareggio turns into one big outdoor theatre during the Carnevale di Viareggio — and it’s honestly one of the most fun events we’ve been to in Tuscany.
The floats are enormous, way bigger than you expect, and packed with moving parts, lights, music, and very cheeky humour. Politicians, celebrities, cartoons — nobody is safe.
The parade runs along the seafront and lasts for hours, with marching bands, dancers, masked performers and thousands of people in costume.
You’ll see full families dressed up, kids throwing confetti, and adults more excited then the children.
Make sure you go early to find a good viewing spot — it gets busy — and don’t wear anything you care about because the confetti is relentless.
If you want to understand how much work goes into it, you can visit the carnival museum where the floats are built.
It’s pure chaos, colour, and fun, a real must see.
