When Is the Best Time to Ski in Austria?
Austria offers one of the longest and most reliable ski seasons in Europe, with most resorts welcoming skiers from early December through April.
Thanks to modern snowmaking and many high-altitude ski areas, conditions are generally excellent throughout the heart of winter.
For beginners, however, we think the best time to visit is mid-January through early March.
Late January is one of our favourite times to ski in Austria.
The busy Christmas and New Year crowds have gone home, the snow base is usually well established and you’ll often find quieter beginner slopes where you have plenty of space to practise.
February is another excellent month, offering some of the best snow conditions of the season.
It can be busier during European school holidays, so if you’re planning a February trip, it’s worth booking your accommodation and ski lessons well in advance.
If you prefer slightly warmer weather and longer daylight hours, March is a wonderful time to visit.

BOOK YOUR FLIGHT – GOING is a great search engine if you are flexible about your travel destination and dates. GOING is our new go to.
Booking.com– for accommodation, we rely on Booking.com for its extensive options and user reviews. We find they have the cheapest rates and offer payment options. In addition, VRBO is another terrific website for all types of accommodations.
Train Travel– to European ski resorts is convenient and scenic, popular trips include Glacier express to Zermatt, the Eurostar from London to the French Alps. We find Omio or Rail Europe are the best sites for booking trains in Europe.
